On various social media, it's possible to block an user, and with that they can't interact anymore with you. On some social media, it's also possible to mute an user. But what is the difference between these two actions?
Generally, blocking prevents an user from interacting with you, in the sense of following you, liking your posts, replying to your posts, sending messages, etc. Muting doesn't prevent this. Muting only stops the program from showing their posts to you. In fact, a muted user is still able to send direct messages to you.
You should use the mute function, for example, when an user keeps posting things that don't interest you with hashtags that interest you, to stop their posts from appearing on your feed of the hashtag.
