What is ASCII Art?

ASCII art is a type of digital art created using text characters. The term comes from ASCII, the name of an old text encoding format. Most ASCII art is monochrome, using plain text as medium, but it's also possible to created colored ASCII art with specialized applications like REXPaint.

Observations

I tried to check all FTP and WWW links in that FAQ without success. All rotten. There were Gopher links as well, but I don't know how to use them.
