What are Kilobytes, Megabytes, Gigabytes, and Terabytes?

Kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, and terabytes are data measurement units: they're used to measure the size of files in a computer, the capacity of devices of mass storage like hard disks and SSDs, and the speed of reading, writing, and transfering data.

1 kilobyte is equal to 1000 bytes. 1 megabyte is equal to 1000 kilobytes (or 1 million bytes). 1 gigabyte is equal to 1000 megabytes (or 1 billion bytes). And, finally, 1 terabyte is equal to 1000 gigabytes (or 1 trillion bytes).

  1. Kilobyte (1000 bytes).
  2. Megabyte (10002 bytes).
  3. Gigabyte (10003 bytes).
  4. Terabyte (10004 bytes).

What are Petabytes, Exabytes, Zettabytes, and Yottabytes?

After the terabyte, we have the petabyte (1000 terabytes), exabyte (1000 petabytes), zettabyte (1000 exabytes), and finally the yottabyte (1000 zettabytes).

  1. Petabyte (10005 bytes).
  2. Exabyte (10006 bytes).
  3. Zettabyte (10007 bytes).
  4. Yottabyte (10008 bytes).
