What is Ubuntu?
Ubuntu (ubuntu.com) is a free Linux-based operating system for desktop computers, said to be one of the easiest Linux distros to use if you're migrating from Windows.
Ubuntu is backed by an organization called Canonical, which is like the Microsoft of Linux! ...partially because it has faced criticism before for some practices that threaten the open spirit of Linux, such as including Amazon ads in the operating system by default when you search for something in Dash (which is like the start menu)1 (something Microsoft is doing right now with its start menu replacement, called Start, by the way), and creating an open, portable executable file format called Snap that only works with their own closed online service, which makes it not really open at all, so much that a distro that's based on Ubuntu, called Linux Mint, even decided to stop using Snaps2.
