Some alternatives for Google as a general web search engine are:
- Kagi (requires payment to use.)
- Bing (cluttered with AI features now.)
- Yandex (primarily Russian, impressive reverse image search.)
- Brave Search (ignores underscores (
_
), making it unusable for coding.) - Wiby (only searches small websites.)
- Mojeek (not very stable at time of review.)
- Kiddle (specially made for child audiences.)
There are many other alternative search engines available, specially that claim to be privacy-focused, such as DuckDuckGo, and Ecosia which plants trees with ad-revenue from your searches. However, these engines do not have their own index or web spider: they mainly return results that come from Bing, which means using them is like using Bing with a different theme. Although Kiddle is also powered by Google, it's worthy listing because it uses a manually curated set of websites.
