Share
In this tutorial, we'll learn how to edit your profile on Bluesky, the social media website, including how to change your display name, the description (the bio) that appears under your name on the profile, your avatar (also called profile picture, or PFP), and background image.

To edit your profile, follow the following steps:

1: in side menu, click on "Profile" to go to your profile page.

A menu with the options: home, search, notifications, chat, feeds, lists, profile, settings (in bold), and a blue button "New Post."
Bluesky's side menu, with Settings active. The "Profile" option is right above it.

2: on your profile page, click on the button "Edit Profile." A dialog box "Edit my profile" will appear.

After making the changes, click on "Save Changes" to save them.

Changing the Display Name

The display name is an arbitrary text that is displayed next to your posts.

The display name isn't the same thing as your username, also called handle, which may not have spaces and appears in the URL of your profile page. To change your username, see:

Changing the Bio

The bio or profile description is a arbitrary text field where you can write whatever you want. Generally you would write here some information about you that you want everyone who is interested in you to read when they view your profile.

Changing the Avatar

To change your avatar (also called profile picture or PFP), you need to click on the circle on the left side of the dialog box "Edit my profile" where your current avatar is shown. A menu will appear with the option "Upload from Files" for you to choose an image file from your computer.

A yellow arrow pointing to the current avatar in a circle. A dropdown menu under it has two options: Upload from Files and Remove Avatar.

Observation: the small circular icon on the bottom-right corner is an icon of a photographic camera that would indicate the function of the click, but because it's so small that's not clear.

Changing the Background Image

To change the background image of your profile click on the rectangle of "Edit my profile" dialog box where it's shown your current background image. This time too you'll see a dropdown menu appear that you can use to select an image file from your computer.
