What is an User Profile on the Internet?
An user's profile in a forum or social media website is a webpage that shows information about that user to others users of that platform. What kind of information is available in a profile varies from platform to platform.
In general, all platforms allow users to describe themselves in a few words. This description is sometimes called their "biography," or "bio," and it's essentially a text field where they can type any paragraph that will be displayed to anyone who visits their profile page. Consequently, it's often used not as a description or as a biography, but just as a way to display a text message to everyone there.
Users sometimes include what their job is, what their accomplishments are, whether they are looking for hire, where do they live, which sports they like, which teams they are fan of, which kind of music they like, what are their hobbies, what are their pronouns, what are their political ideologies, etc.
An user's profile may also include links to other official pages of that user. For example, an user who has both an Instagram profile and a Youtube channel may have link to their channel on Instagram, and a link to their Instagram in their channel profile.
