What is the Web?

The web, or the World Wide Web (WWW), is an immense network of documents accessible on the Internet. These documents, called webpages, can be viewed in an application called a web browser. What made the web special, when it was invented, was the idea that one document could "link" to any other document on the Internet, so you could navigate from one webpage to another through these links.

As the web became a more influential part of the world, the technologies used to edit and render those documents started being used for other purposes, such as creating applications that ran inside the web browser (web applications), creating games that ran inside the browser (browser-based games), and even creating documents, applications, and games that ran offline despite using web technologies, that is, you didn't use a browser to access their data from a web server in the Internet, you just downloaded the whole thing like a normal application and then rant it from your computer (e.g. Electron-based apps).
