To open the Start menu in Windows, there are two methods: you can click on the Start button on the taskbar, which now (on Windows 11) has an icon that looks like four blue squares, or you can press the Windows key (also called "winkey"), which is located between the Ctrl and Alt keys on your keyboard.
Personally, I recommend using the winkey method. If you press winkey, the search box gets keyboard focus automatically. This means you can press winkey and then start typing what you want to find without using the mouse to click on anything. You can also press the Enter key to open the first result of a search. This means you could press winkey, type "paint," and press Enter to open Microsoft Paint, for example.
These two methods also work on Linux. The only difference is that the "Windows" key is called Super key or Meta key on Linux, but its function remains the same.
